Jackson State has the East’s head-to-head advantage over Alabama A&M. AAMU has the most recent offensive statement. Bethune-Cookman gets a direct shot at JSU. Alabama State can still play both leaders. That is a live race, with real differences in leverage.
In the West, Prairie View leads by winning percentage at 3–2, while Grambling and Alcorn sit 2–2. Southern has beaten PV, UAPB has beaten Southern, and PV has beaten Grambling and Alcorn. There is no simple chain of superiority. The remaining direct meetings matter more than a clean-looking narrative.
AAMU exposed Grambling.
433 passing yards and 236 rushing yards in a 61–31 win. Grambling could not consistently take away either phase. Its earlier JSU victory did not make it immune to a complete defensive breakdown.
Alcorn produced—and lost.
The Braves outgained PV by 108 yards in a 41–38 defeat. Two lost fumbles, inconsistent third-down offense and 235 rushing yards allowed show how a big offensive total can still end empty.
UAPB’s finishing problem.
407 offensive yards became only 15 points against Alabama State. The Hornets won with 226 yards. Drive endings and execution carry more meaning than the total-yardage column.
Grambling beat JSU, then lost by 30 to AAMU. Valley beat PV, then lost by 20 to BCU. Southern lost 41–10 to UAPB, then won 28–14 at PV. These results support a volatile race; they do not make the next upset inevitable.
What counts: eight conference games, not every SWAC opponent
The 12-team schedule contains 48 unique conference games across the season: 12 × 8 ÷ 2. Twenty-two are complete and 26 remain in this edition. An intra-SWAC matchup can still be designated nonconference: the August Alabama State–Southern game is excluded from league records here. PV’s October 24 trip to East Texas A&M and ASU’s November 26 Tuskegee game are also outside the simulator.

Daytona is the East’s immediate hinge.
JSU enters 3–1; BCU enters 2–1. A Wildcats win would put BCU at 3–1 and JSU at 3–2, changing the order while AAMU is idle at 3–1. A JSU win produces a 4–1 record and pushes BCU to 2–2. That is a meaningful swing, but no title is clinched this week.
JSU must improve passing efficiency and eliminate the penalties that made homecoming harder than it needed to be.
BCU needs secure possessions and reliable early-down offense, not an assumption that takeaways will repeat.

Jackson State: 3–2 SWAC.

FAMU cannot qualify. UAPB cannot afford to waste chances.
UAPB and FAMU both enter 1–2. The winning team reaches 2–2 and the loser drops to 1–3. For the Golden Lions, this is a route back toward the crowded West; for the Rattlers, it is another chance to affect the race while building consistency through an ineligible postseason year.
UAPB has to turn sustained drives into points after its 407-yard, 15-point outing against ASU.
FAMU needs better ball security after five turnovers at Jackson State. Its offense can compete without giving possessions away.
Florida A&M: 1–3 SWAC.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff: 1–3 SWAC.

Southern needs a streak. TSU needs a first league win.
Southern is 1–2 and owns a head-to-head win over current West leader Prairie View. Texas Southern is 0–3 and has already lost two league games by a combined seven points. A Jaguars win makes Southern 2–2; a Tigers win makes TSU 1–3 and Southern 1–3. The loser’s recovery becomes harder.
Southern must reproduce the execution from the PV win and prevent a slow start on the road.
TSU needs a complete finish: offense, defense and late-game decisions working together instead of another narrow loss.
Texas Southern: 0–4 SWAC.
Southern: 1–3 SWAC.
Baseline-only next-game consequences. Other teams’ results and later tiebreakers can change positioning.
Prairie View plays at East Texas A&M on October 24, listed for 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+. The Panthers remain 3–2 in the conference regardless of that result. Alabama A&M, Alabama State, Alcorn, Grambling and Valley are on bye.
Kickoff conflicts: check the host before you travel
BCU’s current team schedule and live-events listing show JSU at BCU at 1 p.m. ET; conference listings show different times. FAMU’s current schedule shows UAPB at FAMU at 3 p.m. ET, while some conference-hosted schedules list 2 p.m. This edition prioritizes the host’s published listing for those games and marks conflicts with an asterisk. All displayed kickoffs are Eastern.
Later BCU and FAMU kickoff listings also differ across sources. Asterisks identify a conflict or an updated team listing used in preference to an older conference listing. UAPB–TSU uses the host schedule’s 3 p.m. CT / 4 p.m. ET, while the HBCU GO release lists 3 p.m. ET. Check linked official team schedules near kickoff. Channels marked TBA have not been assigned here.
Where the race can turn.
Oct 31 · AAMU vs. ASU
Magic City, major leverage.
AAMU can reach 4–1. ASU can make both teams 3–2 and own the direct result. A rivalry result can alter the East without either team playing JSU that day.
Nov 7 · AAMU at PVAMU
A crossover with two sets of stakes.
Alabama A&M needs every league win in its pursuit of JSU. Prairie View has only three conference games left. This result reaches across the division line.
Nov 14 · JSU at ASU
JSU and ASU meet directly.
If the Hornets stay close, this is their chance to damage a leader while improving their own record. Its significance depends on the games before it.
Nov 14 · ALC at SU
Alcorn and Southern can settle an argument.
A direct West meeting can create separation or another tie. Both teams have experienced how quickly a promising offensive day can disappear.
Nov 21 · JSU at ALC
The Soul Bowl can shape both races.
The same game can affect Jackson State’s East position and Alcorn’s West position. The division labels do not reduce the value of a conference crossover win.
Nov 28 · GSU vs. SU
The Bayou Classic is still on the board.
Grambling and Southern close their league slates November 28. Depending on earlier results, a rivalry that always matters could also carry a West decision.

Standings use conference winning percentage. FAMU is excluded from postseason selection. After all games are picked, the model checks the leading eligible teams using head-to-head and then division record. Any tie requiring later steps remains unresolved; the linked SWAC policy controls official selections. A simulated division winner must still win the SWAC Championship to reach the Celebration Bowl.

First, qualify for and win the SWAC Championship on December 5. Then the SWAC champion meets the MEAC representative in the Celebration Bowl on December 12. A high spot in a poll does not replace either step.
